Visit to Chatsworth House, Derbyshire
June 5 @ 11:00 am - 3:30 pm
£87.50
Thanks to Fellowship Vice Chair, Nancy Rignall, we enjoyed a memorable visit to Chatsworth House, the jewel of Derbyshire and one of England’s finest stately homes. Nestled in the heart of the Peak District, Chatsworth is a place of breathtaking beauty, rich history – and was the perfect setting for our Fellowship Group to connect, reflect and explore.
Chatsworth House has an impressive twenty-five rooms for visitors to explore and contains a plethora of artwork and historical artefacts ranging from Roman sculptures to artistic masterpieces by Rembrandt and many others. The sheer scale and splendour was quite breath taking, each room provided a range of exhibits from across the centuries. Look up and the ceilings are also adored with wonderful paintings as shown in the photographs below.
The building itself is an architectural gem which has played host to a variety of events and provided the filming location for famous film and television productions, perhaps most notably Jane Austen‘s “Pride and Prejudice”.
Out tour was very much enhanced by a very well informed guide who provided a running commentary as we visited each room, with some amusing anecdotes.
After the tour we enjoyed a 3 course lunch in a private dining room where there was much chatter and laughter – almost a guarantee when Fellows and their guests gather.
Whilst the weather was not over kind to us, several of our party continued their adventure in the majestic gardens and countryside that surround this historic estate and visited the Gift Shop where a range of mementos could be purchased.
Everyone said what wonderful experience it was, and thanks again to Nancy for suggesting we added this tour to the Fellowship’s event calendar and for making all the arrangements. We are always seeking new places to visit so do let us know if you have any suggestions.
