My passion for cars started when I was a child. My father’s best friend (my Uncle Freddie) had two small garages in Yorkshire and I spend hours around the cars and generally getting under the feet!
Fast forward to my early 20’s and in 1973 I joined Ford at Brentwood as a Graduate Trainee and that was the start of a working lifetime in the Motor Industry. In addition to 20 years with Ford I spent a short time with Renault in the UK and finally over 20 years with Toyota.
Of many highlights, being invited to become President of both the SMMT and IMI were two of my proudest moments. Now retired I wanted to remain in touch with Industry colleagues and joined the FMI.
I soon found that there was farmore to the Fellowship than convivial lunches (enjoyable though they are!) and I’ve greatly enjoyed the events I’ve attended. A recent highlight was An Audience with Norman Dewis OBE of Jaguar Cars fame. It was an absolute privilege to listen to Norman as he talked about his career and racing success. That event alone, and there have been others too, have made me very glad indeed that I became a Fellow.
