Tour of Morgan Motor Company

Fellows visited the famous Morgan Motor Company in Malvern on the 5th October. It is 4 years since our last visit and in that time there have been a number of changes, albeit the manufacturing still has that endearing and unique combination of traditional craftmanship and state of the art technology. But the company now has a majority shareholder in Italian investment group, Investindustrial, and you can certainly see that they have been true to their name and invested, the new Customer Experience Centre is very impressive plus you are made to feel most welcome. The tour commenced with a very informative short film going back to the company’s roots in 1909 and through the many decades of evolution. Our guide, Andy, provided an informative and often humorous trip around the factory, and it was so good to see the various stages of manufacturer close and up front. It was also interesting to hear that production is still around 800 cars per annum with a typical waiting time of 6 to 12 months, and with 80% of cars being exported. The company will shortly re-enter the USA market with the Plus Four and Plus Six, to go alongside their very successful latest Super 3. Interestingly Germany is currently their largest export market.

The visit was concluded with a look around the Morgan shop, where a few purchases were made, followed by a very enjoyable buffet lunch providing time for fellows to catch up with friends and share their latest stories.
