SUMMARY:Tour of the National Motor Museum\, Beaulieu
DESCRIPTION:We had a most interesting and enjoyable tour of the Museum in May 2025\, thanks to Fellow\, Guy Loveridge\, who is their Heritage Consultant. The tour included a behind the scenes visit to the Archives\, which holds a multitude of publications and other items dating right back to the nineteenth century\, really fascinating. \nGuy has very kindly agreed to host another tour in 2026\, and I would strongly recommend you find the time for the visit – you will not be disappointed. \nCapacity is 40 visitors\, so do book early once tickets go on sale on 1st January 2026. The cost will be £20 per person\, and we will be making a donation to the National Motor Museum Trust. Lunch will be in the cafeteria\, where Fellows and guests can choose from the menu and pay individually. \nArrival time is 11am for teas/coffees and a welcome address. Full joining instructions will be sent out prior to the event. \nAgain I hope that you can join us. \nPeter Cottle

SUMMARY:International Bomber Command Centre
DESCRIPTION:We are delighted to announce that we have secured a tour of this wonderful world class facility which serves as a fitting tribute of Bomber Command during WW11 on the 13th May 2026 \nWe will have a group guide to take us around the facilities and then have lunch in a private room. In the afternoon fellows and their guests can then visit the separate Exhibition at their leisure. \nArrival time will be 10.30\, and we appreciate that some of you will be travelling some distance. The lovely city of Lincoln is very close by and you may choose to add a visit to your itinerary or indeed visit other airforce related locations – eg The Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage at East Kirkby about an hour away. There is a Premier Inn literally across the road from the Bomber Command Centre. \nIf you decide to make the trip to the Lincoln Bomber Command centre into a short break\, there are plenty of other lovely things to do in the area. You can explore historic sites like Lincoln Castle or Cathedral (both only 2-3 miles away)\, visit another aviation-focused attraction in the Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre at East Kirkby (which is around 45 mins away) or the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Visitor Centre at Coningsby where there are active Spitfires\, Hurricanes and a Lancaster. Thorpe Camp Visitor Centre is a preserved RAF Station from WWII. \nIn Lincoln City centre there is a beautiful historic gothic cathedral together with Lincoln Castle\, home to a Magna Carta. If you are feeling fit\, Steep Hill (aptly named) has some lovely little shops and tea rooms\, plus of course Lincoln’s famous Pie shop – a couple of members of the committee would thoroughly recommend a visit there! \nAny walkers will be happy\, able to choose from walking trails and lakes at Whisby Nature Park\, some scenic parkland at Hartsholme country park (situated about a mile from the best home made ice cream in the county at Daisy Made\, Skellingthorpe) or a scenic walk along the Water Railway\, a dual walking and cycling route that navigates the now disused Lincoln to Boston railway line. \nLots of lovely places to stay in and around the city centre\, from the Premier Inn at £85 a night to the quirky Old Palace Lodge in the shadow of the Cathedral from £100 a night \nJoining instructions will follow nearer to the date of the visit.

SUMMARY:South West and South Wales Lunch
DESCRIPTION:Having explored various country hotels in the Bristol area\, with easy access from the M4 and M5 Motorways we are delighted to have secured the prestigious THORNBURY CASTLE for our South West and South Wales Lunch which will be held in the Tudor Hall private dining room. \nThornbury Castle is one-of-a-kind destination\, forged of imposing stone walls and steeped in palatial luxury. Constructed in 1511 by Edward Stafford\, 3rd Duke of Buckingham\, who was executed for treason in 1521\, resulting in Henry VIII confiscating the unfinished castle.\nHenry VIII stayed there with Anne Boleyn in 1535\, but after falling into disrepair\, following the English Civil War\, it was restored by the Howard family from the 1820s onwards. Today\, it operates as a luxury hotel and restaurant\, and is a splendid new location for our lunch. \nThe hotel will be pleased to take room bookings for the night before or the night following the lunch\, which would allow fellows and guests to take full advantage of what the hotel has to offer. \nJoining instructions will follow nearer the time. Please book early so that we can judge numbers for the hotel.
